American screenwriter, film producer, and novelist. She was born in San Angelo, Texas. She was educated at Miss Hockaday's School for Young Ladies in Dallas, Texas. She considered writing as a means of financial independence. She performed on the radio and in cabaret. Her first novel, Spring Riot, was published in 1948. She co-wrote a screenplay for Travels with My Aunt (1972). She was on the board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
