Salma El-Sharkawy |
A British actor, producer, and director, born on September 17, 1928 in Herne Hill, London, England to Winifriede Lucinda, an Irish-born aspiring actress, and Thomas Andrew McDowall, a merchant seaman. After winning an acting prize in a school play at age nine, he started appearing in British films. His debut was in Murder in the Family (1938). He continued acting in many movies after his family moved to the U.S. at the beginning of World War II in 1940. He is known for Fright Night (1985) and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972). Among his awards and nominations, he received a Primetime Emmy Award, a Saturn Award, and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for Cleopatra in 1964. He was also honored with a Star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. He passed away on October 3, 1998 in Studio City, Los Angeles, USA. |
