A Ukrainian-American writer and producer, born on July 10, 1900, in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. He was married four times, the last of which was to Carol Weber, whom he married in 1963. He studied at the Medill School of Journalism before becoming a reporter. His most notable works include Cape Fear (1962), The Princess and the Pirate (1944), and 13 Rue Madeleine (1946). He died on May 29, 1978, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States.
