Woody Strode was an American actor born in Los Angeles, California, on July 25, 1914 as Woodrow Wilson Woolwine Strode and died in Glendora, California, on December 31, 1994 of lung cancer. Woody Strode was nominated for a Golden Globes Award in 1961, a Golden Boot Award in 1987, and a Telluride Festival Award in 1981. Woody Strode was an African-American athlete. He played football and wrestling at the University of California, and excelled in both. His height and huge physical build helped him to become a professional actor. He is best known for his roles in The Ten Commandments (1956), and The Professionals (1966).
