His father was a professor at Antioch College, and his mother was a professor at Howard University and the University of Maryland. In 1991, he graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where he studied theater arts. He moved to New York to work as a comedian and performed at the Apollo Theater. His credits include A Star Is Born (2018), Con Air (1997), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), and Screwed (2000).
