An American actor, born in the Bronx, New York, USA. He received a Golden Globe Award in 1961 and a Golden Laurel Award in the same year for the 1960 movie Exodus. He is known for Rebel without a Cause (1955), Giant (1956), and Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971). He was arrested at the age of ten for theft and was given the choice between incarceration in a juvenile prison or attending a professional acting school. He began theatrical work in his teens and presented several plays on stage, which qualified him to work in cinema and television. He was stabbed to death by a young man on February 12, 1976, in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.
