A British actor, born in Tonbridge, Kent, England, UK, on November 10, 1911, as Harry Fleetwood Andrews. He received the NBR Award in 1966. He is known for The Hill (1965), Man of La Mancha (1972), and Modesty Blaise (1966). He graduated from Wrekin College in Wellington, Shropshire, and began his career on the stage of Liverpool Playhouse in 1933. In 1935, he was invited to New York to present the play Hamlet on Broadway, and upon his return to England, his friend John Gielgud invited him to join his theater company.
Also, he worked with the Old Vic company and then joined the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. He joined British television in its experimental stages in 1939, and after 20 years of theatrical and television work, he made his big screen debut in Paratrooper (1953), after which he appeared in a large number of British and American films, mostly playing the role of a sergeant or officer. Andrews also served with the Royal Artillery during World War II. He died on March 6, 1989, in Sussex, England, UK, due to a viral infection complicated by asthma.
