An Iranian director and writer, born in Tehran, Iran. She is the wife of the famous Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf. She studied geology and biology at the University of Tehran and studied cinema at the Makhmalbaf Film School for 8 years. Her first film, The Day I Became a Woman (2000), participated in the Critics' Week at the 2000 Venice International Film Festival and won 3 awards at that festival. Her works include writing The President (2014) and directing The Man Who Came with the Snow (2009) and Stray Dogs (2004).
