A Romanian writer, director, and producer, born on May 18, 1979, in Bucharest, Romania. His works include Toto and His Sisters (2014) and The World According to Ion B. (2009), which won the International Emmy Award in the Arts Programming category in 2010. He studied directing at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB). He is the first Romanian-born Oscar nominee (along with Bianca Oana, one of the four producers of the documentary Collective). He has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the Directors and Documentary branches since 2021. Also, he was a member of the jury for the Official Competition at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in 2021.
