Soviet-Armenian director and writer born on 9 January 1924 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He studied film directing at VGIK. His directorial debut was Andreish (1954), a remake of his graduation project. His most notable works include Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1965) and The Color of Pomegranates (1969). He died on 20 July 1990 in Yerevan, Armenia.
