A Japanese author, best known as a writer of children's literature and picture books. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, and studied at Waseda University. From an early age, Eiko read a variety of stories, especially traditional tales. She read Edogawa Ranpo, in addition to the Japanese translation of the children's novel "Little Lord Fauntleroy" by Frances Hodgson Burnett, as well as "Huckleberry Finn" and "Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain. She wrote several novels and literary works, such as "Kiki's Delivery Service" (1985) and "Grandpa's Soup" (1999). She also won the Hans Christian Andersen Award for the year 2018.
