An American actress, born as Mary Tomlinson, in Acton, Indiana, USA, on February 24, 1890. Marjorie Main married psychologist Stanley LeFevre Krebs (1921-1935) and remained with him until his death. She is best known for Ma and Pa Kettle Back on the Farm (1951), The Egg and I (1947), The Women (1939), and The Belle of New York (1952).
Marjorie Main studied at Franklin College in Indiana, and her father was a Disciples of Christ minister. She first appeared on Broadway in 1916, and her first screen appearances were in Harry Fox and His Six American Beauties (1929) and A House Divided (1931). During the forties, she achieved great popularity as a comedian through 6 important works, including Barnacle Bill (1941) and The Egg and I (1947), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Marjorie Main died on April 10, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, USA, of lung cancer.
