A Swedish actor and stage director, born in Stockholm, Sweden. His career spanned more than five decades. He made his stage debut at the Södra Teatern in Stockholm in 1877. From 1878 to 1891, he worked with several national theatre companies, collaborating with the actress Julia Håkansson. In 1891, he joined the Swedish Theatre (Svenska Teatern), where he played leading roles in several plays by playwright August Strindberg, including Erik XIV (1899), A Dream Play (1907), and The Dance of Death (1919), as well as plays by playwright Henrik Ibsen, such as A Doll's House (1889) and The Wild Duck (1891). In 1920, he moved to Dramatiska Teatern, where he served as director from 1891 to 1925. During his tenure as director, he sought to focus on classical performances and new works from outside Sweden, and in cinema he appeared in Klostret i Sendomir (1920), The Phantom Carriage (1921), and A Woman's Face (1938).
