An American actor and singer, born in New York City. He began tap dancing at the age of three, and started dancing semi-professionally at the age of five. He was the lead singer and musician in a rock band called Severance in 1975/76 in Venice, California. In 1997, he starred in his own sitcom, The Gregory Hines Show on CBS. He made his Broadway debut with his brother in The Girl in Pink Tights (1954). He was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards and won a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award. He's known for Renaissance Man, The Cotton Club, and Will & Grace. He died on August 9, 2003.
