An American actor and singer, born on February 14, 1946 in New York City. Gregory Hines began tap dancing at the age of three, and embarked on semi-professional dance at the age of five. Since then, he and his older brother Maurice have begun performing together, and the brothers began appearing in nightclubs, and were later called the "Hines Brothers". Hines began playing as lead vocalist and musician in a rock band called "Severance" in 1975/76 in Venice, California . He began his television career with a starring role in his own series in 1997, The Gregory Hines Show on CBS, as well as a recurring role as Ben Doucette on Will & Grace. In 1999, Hines made a television appearance with Nick Jr. in Little Bill. He also made his Broadway debut with his brother in The Girl in Pink Tights (1954). He was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards, and he is best known for The Cotton Club, and Will & Grace. He also co-hosted the Tony Awards in 1995 and 2000. Died August 9, 2003.
