An American actress and singer, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, on June 18, 1903, as Jeannette Anna McDonald. She received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Jeannette MacDonald married actor and writer Gene Raymond (1937-1965) and remained with him until her death. Among her most notable works are One Hour with You (1932), San Francisco (1936), and Cairo (1942). She began her artistic career at the age of 6 by appearing in theaters and operas in small roles, and by the time she was 13, she was winning singing competitions in the Eastern United States. She was a gifted operatic singer. In 1929, she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures to star in the movie The Love Parade (1929). After appearing in several movies produced by Paramount, Fox, and United Artists, she was signed on by MGM in 1933. She went on to participate in many musical films in addition to musical productions in the theater and opera. In 1956, she received an honorary doctor of music degree from Ithaca College. She died on January 14, 1965, in Houston, Texas, USA, of a heart attack.
