An Argentine dancer and choreographer, born in the Saavedra neighborhood of Buenos Aires to humble immigrants from Galicia. After the death of her father, María left school in the fourth grade to work as a maid in La Boca. She was introduced to tango by her older sister known as La Ñata. When María was 14, she became the dance partner of the 17-year-old Juan Carlos Copes, and she participated with him in the 1983 musical Tango Argentino. She is known for Our Last Tango (2015).
