Austrian explorer, photographer, mountaineer, and writer. He was born in Hüttenberg, Austria. He was a member of the Nazi Party and a member of the Austrian Sturmabteilung. In 1927, they moved to Graz, where he studied geography and sports at Karl-Franzens University. He was also actively involved in climbing mountains and alpine skiing, and he was a candidate for the 1936 Winter Olympics. He won student alpine skiing competitions, but mountaineering became his real passion. He died on January 7, 2006, Friesach, Austria
