An American musician, composer, songwriter, and producer. He is also an album cover designer and film and music video director. He produced more than sixty music albums and played guitar. His first band was known as The Mothers of Invention, and it lasted from 1964 to 1969. Among their songs were Who Are the Brain Police?, Well, and Plastic People. After that, Zappa began his independent artistic career, and among the musicians who participated with him were George Duke, Ruth Underwood, and Jean-Luc Ponty. Frank was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to a father of Sicilian, Greek, and Arab descent and a mother of Italian and French descent. Frank was the eldest of two brothers and one sister. He grew up in a small California town called Lancaster, near Los Angeles, where he played drums and guitar. He also attended college for one semester, then dropped out. He got married to Kay Sherman in 1960, and they got divorced in 1964.
