An American author, born in Tilden, Nebraska, United States. He studied engineering for two years at George Washington University. To earn a living, he began writing fantasy and science fiction stories in the 1930s in magazines, the most famous of which was Astounding Science...Read more Fiction. He joined the US Navy in 1941 after the declaration of World War II. He was discharged in 1945, after suffering partial blindness and lameness during the war. By the time of his death, he had written a series of books and delivered a massive collection of lectures about Scientology. He's known for Battlefield Earth (2000) and The Secret of Treasure Island (1938). He died on January 24, 1986.
