An American actor and screenwriter, born in Warren, Ohio, USA. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart in the Battle of Iwo Jima against Japanese forces. He began his acting career and then turned to screenwriting. He wrote professionally for several decades. Among his credits are Gunsmoke (1955), The Streets of San Francisco (1972), and The Dukes of Hazzard (1979). He died on September 17, 2014.
