An Australian-American screenwriter, director, and producer, born in Nouméa, New Caledonia. After moving to California, he attended Stanford University for a year, but then lost his scholarship because he became obsessed with theater. He moved to New York, studied at the Actors...Read more Studio, and was drafted into the United States Army, where he was sent to Germany, and worked for the newspaper Stars and Stripes. He spent six months in Europe, especially in Paris, France, then returned to Stanford University to study Arts in Creative Writing, and obtained a Master of Arts in Screenwriting from the University of California. Among his credits are Foul Play, Silver Streak, and 9 to 5. He died on August 5, 1988.
