An American writer, literary critic, and novelist, born in New York State, USA. He graduated from the University of Chicago, receiving his master's degree in 1948 and his doctorate in 1959. He was a professor in the English Department at the University of Cincinnati for nearly forty years. His novels in modern literature and creative writing received great attention. He wrote the novel Nocturnal Animals, which was turned into a film of the same name in 2016.
