A British director, he was born in Chiswick, London, United Kingdom. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, England, and practiced acting and directing when he was twenty years old. He worked a lot on Shakespeare’s plays. His fame spread throughout the world, and UNESCO invited him to build a theater center in Paris, France, where he could apply his theatrical theories. In the seventies, he performed his dramaturgical performances and he founded the International Centre for Theatre Research. He presented many versions of William Shakespeare's plays in addition to books, such as King Lear in 1971 and La tragédie de Carmen in 1983.
