British director, producer, and writer, born in Barnstaple, United Kingdom. He studied at Sherborne School and theater at the University of Cambridge. He won the Laurence Olivier Award in theater in 1983 in the category of best director for the play "Guys and Dolls" and the same award in 1998 for the play "King Lear." He was nominated for the same award in 2003 for best director and in 2002 for the play "Vincent in Brixton," which was shown at the Royal National Theatre.
