An American musician, singer, songwriter, author, poet, actor, and activist. Nelson became one of the most famous artists in the world of country music. Nelson has appeared in more than 30 films and co-authored several books. Nelson was raised by his grandparents, wrote his first song at the age of seven, and joined his first band at the age of ten. He graduated from high school in 1950, joined the Air Force but was later discharged due to problems with his back. After returning to Baylor University, Nelson entered for two years but dropped out after two years. Nelson moved to Vancouver, Washington, where he wrote the Family Bible and recorded Lumberjack in 1956. In 1962, he recorded his first album ...And Then I Wrote. As a result of this success, Nelson signed a contract with RCA Records in 1964 and joined the Grand Ole Opry the following year. Nelson is best known for participating in the movies Honeysuckle Rose (1980), Songwriter (1984), and The Big Bounce (2004).
