A French director and writer, born in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France. He began practicing photography at the age of eighteen, before joining Gamma and then Magnum. He is a professional photographer and film director, especially in the field of documentary films. He is one of the founders of Gamma, which changed the concept of professional photographers in the 1960s, opening the door to absolute freedom in diversification and innovation, especially since it gave him the opportunity to find interesting and new subjects regardless of the cost of achieving them artistically. In 1979, Dupardon left Gamma following fundamental differences that arose between several of its members, and joined the Magnum group, known for its seriousness and artistic and professional effectiveness. He began to travel and cover hot events in several countries around the world, such as Lebanon, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Chad. He also directed documentary films that deal with the suffering of peoples subject to poverty or dictatorship. Dupardon has won a large number of valuable artistic awards for his work in the fields of photography and documentary film directing. His directing credits include Modern Life (2008), Untouched by the West (2002), Lumière and Company (1995), and Caught in the Acts (1994).
