Thelma Ritter was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 14, 1902. She married actor Joseph Moran (1927-1969) and had two children, and she remained with him until she died on February 5, 1969 in New York of a heart attack. Despite her cinematic brilliance, she did not receive awards in her life. She received 6 nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, 5 nominations for the Golden Laurel Award, and 3 nominations for the Golden Globe Award.Thelma Ritter's beginnings were in high school plays, then she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Art, and in the forties worked on radio.She began her artistic career with cinema with a small role in the movie Miracle on 34th Street (1946), while she is better known for her roles in All About Eve (1950), Rear Window (1954), Pillow Talk (1959), and Alcatraz (1962).
