British director born on 23 February 1904 in London, United Kingdom. He began his film career as a clapper, then an assistant editor, then an editor. His directorial debut was A Song for Tomorrow (1948). Most of his notable works were historical epics and supernatural films such as Four Sided Triangle (1953), The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Horror of Dracula (1958), and The Mummy (1959). He died of a heart attack on 18 June 1980 in London.
