An Icelandic avant-garde artist, singer-songwriter, composer, actress, and music producer, born on November 21, 1965. Her work includes seven albums and a film soundtrack and is known for her expressive singing style, the quality of her multi-level, diverse soprano voice, and her eclectic style of music, including pop, alternative rock, jazz, electronic, classical, folk, and trip hop. Her most popular singles include It's Oh So Quiet, Army of Me, and Hyperballad. She has also been nominated for more than 10 Grammy Awards, once for an Academy Award, and twice for a Golden Globe Award, including once as an actress for her role in Dancer in the Dark, directed by Lars von Trier. Moreover, she won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival and was ranked number 36 on on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll and number eight by MTV's 22 Best Voices in Music.
