An Icelandic-Canadian film director and producer, born in Reykjavik, Iceland. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with his parents when he was seven years old. He studied English literature and did graduate studies in film studies at the University of British Columbia. He then moved to Toronto, Canada, and began working for the National Film Board. His first film After the Axe (1982), was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. His other credits include Rare Birds, Force of Nature, and Ice Soldiers.
