An American actress, born in Parsons, Kansas, on January 3, 1894, to a father who lost his leg in the Civil War, then the family moved to California when she was nine years old. She attended Santa Cruz School and got rid of her shyness after joining the school's acting team. She was discovered by screenwriter Frances Marion, who introduced her to small comic roles with major film stars, through which she gained popularity, and got her first leading role in the movie Better Times (1919). The following year, she married actor Thomas Sarsfield Gallery, with whom she appeared in several movies. Zasu Pitts received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. Among her notable works are: Greed (1924), Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), Life with Father (1947), and The Thrill of It All (1963). She died on June 7, 1963 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. |
