British actor, born in Southampton, Hampshire, England, United Kingdom. He started his career on Broadway as a singer and dancer before switching to dramatic parts. He spent several years practicing and perfecting his craft on stage before relocating to America. His debut was in Success (1923). His real breakthrough was in Crime Without Passion (1934). He was known for works including Mr. Ace (1946) and You're My Everything (1949). His last film was The Groom Wore Spurs (1951), before he died on April 22 of that year.
