An Austro-Hungarian-born, American actor, director, and producer. He was born on December 5, 1905, in Wischnitz, Austria-Hungary (now Vyzhnytsia, Ukraine), and moved to Hollywood in 1935. He was originally an actor mentored by Max Reinhardt in Vienna. His most notable films include Laura (1944), Fallen Angel (1945), River of No Return (1954), and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). He passed away on April 23, 1986. |
