British screenwriter, novelist, and actress, born in the United Kingdom.She received theater training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before making multiple appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company. She was honored with a British Film Institute Fellowship for her exceptional contribution to television culture, as well as an Edgar Award for her performance in Prime Suspect (1991). In the 2008 Honors List, she was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions to charity, theater, and writing. She is best known for Civvies (1992), Framed (1992), and The Governor (1995-1996).
