A British author born in London to French parents, he worked as a journalist for several British newspapers and was a Pacific war correspondent for the Evening Standard during World War II. His interest in crime led him to write several nonfiction books about famous British killers - including George Joseph Smith and John George Hague. In addition to many criminal fiction works, his works were adapted in cinemas, including the movie Frenzy. He died in 1990 at the age 81 in London.
