A Czech actor, born in Prague, Czech Republic. He obtained British citizenship in the mid-1940s and settled in London, England. He began his career at the BBC and participated in more than one hundred films during his long artistic career, including classic works such as The Ladykillers (1955), Spartacus (1960), and El Cid (1961). He played the role of Napoleon Bonaparte in the film War and Peace in 1956, a film adapted from the novel by the writer Leo Tolstoy. |
