A French actor, born in Marseille, France, to a noble French family. His father, the founder of the magazine Liberté, was killed fighting in a raid. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure, before taking up a diplomatic career in Algeria between 1956 and 1957. After deciding to return to becoming an actor, he worked extensively in European cinema during the 1960s and 1970s, most notably in À nous deux la vie (1998), Tout va bien c'est Noël! (2001), L'ultimo Pulcinella (2008), and Strange Birds (2017).
