Eddie Rochester Anderson was born in Oakland, California, USA, on September 18, 1905. At the age of ten, he moved with his family from Oakland to San Francisco. When he was 14, he and his older brother joined vaudeville shows, and became members of the Three Black Aces as dancers in 1924. He worked in several theaters in New York, until he reached the Los Angeles Theater in California. He presented his first movie, What Price Hollywood? (1932), and continued to appear in films in small roles, the most prominent of which was in The Green Pastures (1936). The following year, he worked with Jack Benny in his program on the radio, which later moved to the television in 1950. During his radio career, he found enough time to participate in films, such as Jezebel (1938) and Love Thy Neighbor (1940). After Jack Benny's program ended in 1965, he remained active as a guest on series and voice actor in animated films. His most notable work includes You Can't Take It with You (1938), Gone with the Wind (1939), Cabin in the Sky (1943), and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). He died in Los Angeles, California, on February 28, 1977 of heart disease.
