His first film as an actor was The Nest (1943), a short film, while his first feature film was I'll Be Seeing You (1944). He made his directorial debut in Nightmare in the Sun (1965), in which he also starred with his wife Ursula Andress, and at the end of the sixties he started a new career as a cinematographer when he presented the film A Boy... a Girl (1969), for which he also wrote the screenplay. John Derek won a Golden Globe and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his television work. His notable work includes The Ten Commandments (1956), Bolero (1984), and Ghosts Can't Do It (1989). He died in Santa Maria, California, on May 22, 1998 of heart problems.
