A Mexican director, born in Mexico City. He began his artistic career at an early age. He shot his first short films in Super 8 at thirteen. Among his most notable works is the short film The Hero in 1994, which won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival. He also directed several feature films, including The Crime of Father Amaro in 2002, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
