A German actor, whose family immigrated to Britain. He became famous for his role as the evil officer in the 1943 film We Dive at Dawn, and his artistic participation expanded by the early 1950s. He was chosen to play the role of General Gogol in the British James Bond series of films in the seventies and eighties, because he greatly resembled the former head of the Soviet secret police, and among those films are The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Octopussy (1983). |
