An American actress, born on April 4, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, of German descent. Her career spanned nearly 70 years. She studied Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia, and then studied theater with Sanford Meisner. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York City, and began her artistic career in 1946. She is known for many films, including The Birds, (1963), The Graduate (1967), The Addams Family (1991), and Hyde Park on Hudson (2012). She died on May 9, 2015, in New Haven, Connecticut, USA
