An American boxer and actor, born on February 11, 1909 in Omaha, USA, to a Jewish father and a Scottish-Irish mother. The family moved first to Colorado and then to California, where he left school after the eighth grade to work with his father on a ranch. In 1929, he turned to professional boxing and had 22 wins in his first 24 matches. He is best known for appearing in The Harder They Fall. He died on November 21, 1959 in Hollywood, California, USA, of a heart attack.
