Davidson studied law at Columbia University, where he played American football and became a popular star, which led him to work in cinema after graduating from university,. He married twice and did not have children. He starred in many silent films, and after the entry of sound into films, he presented several roles, especially for men of power. He is best known for The Most Dangerous Game, I'm No Angel, and The Farmer's Daughter. He died after surgery in Santa Monica, California, USA, on September 28, 1947, at the age of fifty-nine.
