An Italian actress, born in San Giorgio di Piano, Emilia Romagna, Italy, as Giulia Anna Masina. She married writer and director Federico Fellini (1943-1993), had a child with him, and remained with him until his death. Her credits include The Nights of Cabiria (1957), La Strada (1954), Juliet of the Spirits (1965), and Ginger and Fred (1986). Giulietta spent her adolescence with her widowed aunt in Rome, where she imbibed her love of theatre and obtained her degree in Philosophy. She began her career working on the radio in 1942. She presented a program written by Federico Fellini, which brought her great success and wide fame. The following year she married Fellini and became his muse for most of his works. She excelled with him in the film La Strada, which won an Oscar in 1954, and the film The Night of Cabiria in 1957, which also won an Oscar and brought her the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Female Actress. During the fifties and sixties, she presented many distinguished films, and her husband Fellini participated with her as a writer and director of many works. At the end of the sixties, she focused her efforts on radio, then joined work in television drama. She died on March 23, 1994, in Rome, Lazio, Italy, from cancer.
