An American actor, born in the Bronx, on January 16, 1878. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1940 for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 1939. He was awarded a Golden Boot Honorary Award in 1991 and a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. He was married 4 times and had two children. His most important works: Red River in 1948, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington in 1939 and Angel and the Badman in 1947. He died in California, on September 21, 1947 of cancer and emphysema.
