Canadian writer, opera singer, and actress. In 1906, she made her stage debut at the German opera. She sang in Berlin for eight years before performing in Belgium, England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia. She joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1916 after arriving in America in 1913. She began her film career with the film It's a Gift (1934) and appeared in Man on the Flying Trapeze (1935) and Born to Be Bad (1950). |
