A British actress born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom on May 24, 1923 and died in Dublin, Ireland, United Kingdom on November 16, 1986 following lung cancer surgery. She was nominated for a Tony Award on Broadway for Best Dramatic Actress in 1956 and 1958. She married actor Denis O'Dea (1956-1978), had a child, and remained with him until his death in 1978. Her most important works include The DuPnt Show of the Month (1957), Doctor Zhivago (1965), King of Kings (1961), and The Last Days of Pompeii (1984). She was born in Belfast and raised in the Republic of Ireland and educated at St. Louis Abbey. She began her acting career in 1940 in Galic Theatre, and in 1944, she appeared permanently in the production of the Abbey Theatre. In 1947, she stood on the stage of the London theater and presented her first films in British cinema, Hungry Hill (1947). She participated in American cinema before returning to Britain in the seventies to continue her work in British cinema and television.
