A British actor, born in Walsall, England, United Kingdom. He married two wives and had one daughter. His major works include The Fighting Prince of Donegal (1966), Clayhanger (1976), The Moon-Spinners (1964), and Entertaining Mr. Sloane (1970). He became known as a theater, television, and film actor. He was educated at Ellesmere College in Shropshire, studied theater with Iris Warren, and made his theatrical debut in 1956.
He became a stage actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and played various roles in Hamlet. He became a well-known actor in classical theater. He began his TV career in 1959 and appeared in 29 television works during his career. In 1966, he played his first cinematic lead in the Disney movie The Fighting Prince of Donegal. He participsted in 17 British films.
